VASSAL Supporting the Entertainment Industry: Gear Motors for Spectacular Special Effects
RetourA Look Back at a Landmark Project Completed in Autumn 2024
Last October, SOTIC VASSAL completed a project that was both highly technical and deeply artistic alongside Fantasmagorie, located in Paris’ 13th arrondissement. Designed for the entertainment, film, and television industries, this project successfully combined industrial expertise with creative innovation.
The objective was clear: to design and install control cabinets and gear motors specifically adapted for stage winches. These systems, capable of generating translational and rotational movements across three axes, allow performers to “fly” with the precision and fluidity expected in major productions.
Technical Expertise Serving the Art of Illusion
Thanks to this technology, spectacular performances can be achieved in musicals, television productions, and special-effects films.
In the movie Aladdin, two winch drive systems developed by SOTIC VASSAL were installed to lift the support structure of the famous flying carpet. Combined with a horizontal translation system, the setup created a highly realistic takeoff and landing effect — both immersive and visually stunning.
Balancing Mechanical Precision and Artistic Freedom
This project perfectly illustrates one of the key strengths of the Groupe SOTIC: the ability to design reliable, high-performance technical solutions, even in highly specialized creative environments.
“Groupe SOTIC is proud to contribute to innovation in the audiovisual entertainment industry through our project with Fantasmagorie, merging engineering with art to help preserve our cultural heritage.”
Jean-Louis Fontanille, Managing Director of SOTIC
Through this partnership, SOTIC VASSAL further confirms its role as a strategic partner for the creative industries — where technology must seamlessly disappear in service of emotion.
